A lifelong dog lover, the artist studies each AKC breed standard before beginning a sculpture. While paying close attention to the standard, the artist's goal is to create a sculpture that reflects the beauty and dignity of every dog. Recently the Bloodhound Sculpture placed an Honorable Mention at the New York Dog Fancier's Club annual art show and a First Place at the "Best in Hound Group" ribbon in Spokane, Washington. Custom Colorization is available for most bronze sculptures. Sharon Ziegenhagen will patina the sculpture to match
your champion dog.

Bronze is an alloy of copper mixed with tiny amounts of other elements such as manganese, aluminum, silver, or zinc to add brilliance and hardness. Bronze is ideal for casting artworks since it flows into all the crevices of a mold that has been created from an original sculpture. Thus the fine detail work of the artist is transferred into the bronze replica. After the sculpture comes from the casting, a patina is applied by brushing on chemicals then applying heat with a torch until the desired shade is obtained. The patina can be either a colored patina to duplicate the real thing or a standard patina which retains the metallic look. |
